Origins and Oatmeal
My favorite feeling in the world is uncontrollable laughter. The feeling of my face hurting from smiling for too long, my abs tired, and tears streaming down my face. Once the laughter starts, there is no stopping it.
It has happened many times: in class discussing DNA privacy, playing Bananagrams with my cousins, staying over for dinner at my friends house. For me, each of these moments and their stories are like little origin stories. I love to think back on these moments, but it impossible to relive the emotions I was feeling at the time. It isn’t rational. It doesn’t really make sense why reading Dino Eggs Instant Oatmeal reviews (read a few here ;)), or seeing the poster on our school cafeteria wall declaring dairy the harvest of the month would trigger such an intense emotional reaction.
When I think about that day with the Dino Oatmeal, I am positive if I had seen that on my own it wouldn’t make me laugh. It wouldn’t have been part of my story. In reality, I have been changed far less by a singular event, and more by the people who surrounded me. The people who can make me laugh like that, uncontrollable and loud, easily confused with sobbing, they are always the closest people in my life to me. They are my origin people.
